What Is Our On-Site Installation Guidance?

We can always offer remote installation guidance, but for the most complex installations, we can offer on-site, in-person guidance to ensure our expansion joints are installed correctly into a pipeline or other critical system.

On‑site guidance is most valuable when the cost of getting it wrong is high, such as:

  • Commissioning and first start-up of new pipework systems;

  • Shutdown replacements where downtime is limited;

  • Retrofits where “as-installed” alignment differs from drawings;

  • Repeat failures where the joint is being blamed but the system behaviour is the real driver;

  • Installations near rotating equipment where vibration and nozzle loads are critical;

  • Tight envelopes and congested plant where access makes best-practice installation harder.

What We Verify On-Site Installation Guidance

Things we might need to check before, during or after installation to prevent early-life failure:

Alignment and fit-up:

  • Confirming the joint is not forced into position mispositioned by pipework;

  • Checking axial alignment and lateral or angular offset against allowable limits;

  • Identifying misalignment that would drive early fatigue or leaks.

Pre-setting and travel position:

  • Verifying whether pre-setting is required and whether it has been applied correctly;

  • Confirming the joint’s ‘neutral’ position matches expected thermal growth direction;

  • Ensuring travel limits are respected during installation and operation.

Anchoring, guiding and restraint intent:

  • Confirming anchors and guides are present, positioned correctly, and capable of doing what the design assumes;

  • Identifying missing or ineffective guiding that can lead to unstable movement or overload;

  • Highlighting where restraint strategy is likely creating excessive loads.

Bolting, sealing and practical installation detail:

  • Reviewing bolting practices that influence leakage and flange integrity;

  • Checking mating interfaces and installation practices that commonly cause repeat leaks;

  • Confirming the joint is installed in a way that remains maintainable and inspectable.

These checks target the installation behaviours that would drive premature failures.

On‑Site Inspection And NDT Support

When the issue is already in service – leakage, cracking, fatigue damage, unexpected movement – we can support with an engineering-led inspection approach to identify the most likely causes and the most practical corrective route.

Typical outcomes include:

  • Identification of likely root cause drivers (misalignment, over‑travel, restraint issues, vibration, thermal growth assumptions);

  • Defined corrective action plan: what to change on the system, not just the component;

  • Recommendations for replacement joint type or configuration if needed;

  • Clear information capture so replacement parts are engineered to the installed reality.

 

NDT scope depends on access, safety constraints and the project specification, but the goal is the same: confidence in what failed and why.

  • A visit summary with key observations and ‘must-fix’ items;

  • Confirmation of alignment and installation condition against allowable assumptions;

What We Need From You To Plan The Visit

To make the site time productive, send:

  1. Line drawings or isometrics and the joint detail (or nameplate info if replacing);

  2. Operating conditions: pressure, temperature, media, and any cycling profile;

  3. The suspected problem: leak location, cracking, fatigue, vibration, unusual movement;

  4. Photos of the installation and surrounding constraints;

  5. Shutdown window, access constraints, and any permit or safety requirements;

  6. Any specification requirements for inspection, testing, and reporting outputs.

 

If information is limited, photos plus a short description of the symptom and operating duty still allow a useful first triage.
